To restore or improve a person’s smile, dental bonding procedure is done. The procedure includes a durable plastic material called tooth colored resin material is applied and then hardened with a special light.
The advantages of dental bonding are it is the easiest and least expensive compared to other cosmetic procedures. Least amount of tooth enamel is removed and until and unless it is performed to fill a cavity, anesthesia is not required
Dental bonding procedure is considered in following cases:
- To repair decayed teeth (composite resins are used to fill cavities)
- To improve the appearance of discolored teeth
- To repair chipped or cracked teeth
- To change the shape of teeth
- To close the gaps between the teeth
- To protect the exposed portion of the teeth that occur due to receding of the gums.
Procedure at Lookswoow:
We first prepare in advance to check with anesthesia is required unless the bonding is used to fill a decayed tooth. Our dentist will select a composite resin color that closely matches with the color of your teeth.
The procedure usually takes between 30 to 60 minutes per tooth during which the surface of the tooth will be roughened and conditioned by applying a liquid. This helps the bonding material adhere to the tooth. Then we mold putty-like resin to the desired shape. An ultra-violet or a laser light is used to harden the mold and the dentist will further trim it to match the sheen of the rest of the tooth surface.
Although the material used in dental bonding is somewhat stain resistant, it does not resist stains as well as crowns.
Do bonded teeth require special care?
Bonded teeth do not require special care. Good oral hygiene practices like brushing your teeth twice a day, floss atleast once a day and regular check-ups and cleanings will suffice.
